Hello to MCIC!

Are you planning to attend World Workplace in Phoenix? We hope to see you there - our semi-annual meeting will take place on Wednesday, October 26 from 7:45 - 9:45 AM. Though that hour is early, we will feed you breakfast and provide you with plenty of coffee to make sure you are wide awake as we have our business meeting as well as discuss some interesting and exciting FM initiatives.

Last year, you indicated that you wanted to have MCIC provide more exposure to facilities best practices as well as netowkring opportunities. At this year's meeting, we will have information about internships and how your organization can go about getting interns to help you with FM projects; the use of interns to receive academic credit for their work is a best practice and it is not as difficult as it may sound. We will talk about how to define an internship project, where to find interns and what interns can bring to your organization.

Angela Person, who is authoring a book on facility management in cultural organizations, will also be attending our meeting and would like to speak with our members about the book, as well as some marketing and networking opportunities to get this information about FM in cultural insititutions out to a larger audience. she would like to schedule some time to interview our members, and I know once you meet her and hear the exciting plans for this book you will want to participate.

The last few weeks have seen no shortage of weather-related challenges for our facilities and our staffs. Earthquakes, fires, floods, tornadoes, hurricanes just to name the big ones; here's hoping that you and your facilities got through these without too many problems.

We hope to see you in Phoenix and are looking forward ot a successful business meeting as well as some good networking time together. As always, let us hear from you if you have specific issues or questions you would like addressed.

Regards,

Judie Cooper, CFM
President, MCIC
